S.E.L Main spent her formative years in the U.K. and trained as a primary school teacher at Homerton College, Cambridge. During her final year she studied in Norwich and sought inspiration for her artwork in the Norfolk countryside. Having braved the icy winter winds with sketchpad and pencils in hand, the subsequent drawings were later transformed into watercolours and etchings.
After graduating with B.Ed. Hons, Sue taught in independent schools in London and Birmingham before migrating to Australia with her husband. Since living in Australia, Sue has gained extensive experience in education as a director of a centre for gifted children, school principal, and primary mathematics extension and remediation specialist.
Sue has always had a strong commitment to providing children with an environment that enables them to become independent and self-directed learners. At the same time she has endeavoured to help them to develop their unique gifts and talents. Her own rich childhood led her to believe that all children should be given opportunities that nurture a lifelong love of learning.
Happily married with grown up children, Sue recently retired from teaching in order to devote more time to her family and prayer ministry. She is a member of the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of the Southern Cross, entrusted to the pastoral care of the Ordinary, Monsignor Harry Entwistle.
Writing children’s books was never part of Sue’s plan for retirement. The Big Man evidently had other ideas! She hopes that the spiritual experiences woven into her stories will be a source of encouragement for many others as they seek to deepen their relationship with God.
